Why I’m Lacing Up: My Journey with Mental Health and R U OK?

Mental health isn’t just a concept I read about—it’s something I live with every single day. Growing up, mental health struggles were always present in my family, and for a long time, I fought my own battles in silence, feeling like I had to carry it all on my own.

Learning to reach out and say "I’m not OK" was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it was also the first step toward healing.

This October, my mum and I are walking together to raise money for R U OK?. I’m taking these steps not just for my family, but for anyone who is currently sitting in the dark, feeling like they can’t ask for help. A simple conversation really can save a life—it saved mine.

Every dollar we raise goes straight to suicide prevention and mental health support. If you can donate or share our page, it means more to me than words can say. Thank you for standing by us. 💛

im not ok

Tuesday 11th Aug

Growing up, mental health wasn’t a abstract concept in our house. It was the air we breathed. It was in the quiet days, the heavy days, and the unspoken weight our family carried for as long as I can remember.

For a long time, I thought that was just how life was meant to feel. When my own mental health began to unravel, I fought the battles quietly. I hid behind a smile, convinced that speaking up would make me a burden, or that asking for help meant giving up.

Carrying that alone was exhausting. Learning to finally look someone in the eye and say "I’m not OK" was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done—but it was also the turning point that saved my life.
