I’m Clocking K’s for R U OK?
This July, I’m joining K’s for R U OK? to stay connected, develop healthy habits and help to create a world where we're connected and protected from suicide.
Each week I'll be consistent in my clocking as I walk (run, wheel or ride) to help start more life-changing conversations.
By donating to my page you are helping R U OK? provide free, essential resources to schools, workplaces, families, and communities across Australia. Giving them the tools and confidence to spot the signs and to start a conversation that could change the life of someone who's struggling. And you'll be putting a big smile on my face.
Thank you so much.
By inspiring people to take the time to ask “Are you OK?” and listen, we can help people struggling with life to feel connected long before they even think about suicide.
My Updates
The end. Which is also a beginning
Monday 29th Jul I’ve done my dash for the month of July. This has been an inspiring and satisfying experience for me, and hopefully one that does some small amount of good in the world. I’m sitting here feeling proud to have walked a long way, raised a chunk of money, and refined a fitness habit that I love and need. Thanks to everyone for your efforts, your words and your inspiration. Signing off for now.Getting to the pointy end
Tuesday 23rd Jul What a month it has been. I’m waiting for my 4:41 alarm to go off, ready to hit the local roads and pathways for my 16 th walk of the month. I look forward to these quiet morning walks, as they give me time to be alone and quiet. I realize that for many, alone time is stressful and causes pain, but I find I need it to practice mindfulness. This week is my last week of walking for the RUOK challenge. The final few days of the month will be my next chemo treatment, which knocks me about a bit. But I feel healthier and stronger in mind and body since starting this challenge. I’ve also enjoyed many conversations about mental health, checking in and suicide prevention. People from across the world have made donations. My great inspiration has been to read the updates and blogs from so many other participants. You are all amazing. Have a strong finish and best of luck. You are doing important work. ShareRest is good and necessary
Thursday 18th Jul I’m excited for an early start tomorrow. I’ve had to take a few days off the walks due to my treatment. I’ve been tired and feeling off. That was hard because I’m enjoying my calm time and the rush I get from the physical activity. Above all, I’m keen to hit the 200k mark and $1000 in funds raised. Inching closer. I’m happy to say that right now I’m ok. I hope you are ok too. If not, know there are people around you who can listen, hear and help if you want. At heart people are good, kind and loving. Trust that. Lean on that and also be a person people can lean on. ❤️❤️❤️ ShareWeek 2. A big one
Sunday 14th Jul I started the week of walking strongly, and I have found the benefits for me physically and mentally to be immense. I clocked 80km this week alone, and felt nothing but pleasure doing it. I’m the meantime I spread the word around work colleagues. Have had some interesting conversations, many very supportive of the idea, but some who feel a sense of ‘cause overload’. I get it. In July I’ve seen at least 4 charities running fundraisers for mental health, each with a challenge and a lot of socials. My challenge is to personalize my connection, and to ask for something, anything, to help. I’m closing in on $1000 and hope to go beyond. My friends, family and colleagues past and present have shown wonderful support. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I have more chemo tomorrow, but should be walking again Thursday. Aiming to go beyond 200km for the month. Everyone on the RUOK group has been so inspirational. Go team. Share100km down. Let’s go for more.
Thursday 11th Jul I feel very happy to have hit my goal in 11 days. Pushing myself to be active is having so much impact on my mood and balance. Having an opportunity to indulge in this self care as a way to spread awareness of mental health and suicide prevention adds another layer. My supporters have been generous and inspiring. Thank you. Now for the next 100 and some more fundraising. ShareWeek one down
Monday 8th Jul I was thrilled to have a great week of fundraising to the extent that we are past the $700 mark already. Coupled with a 54k week of walking, I have to say my own mental health got a real boost. A massive thank you to my supporters and donors. As I’ve talked with people about this cause there have been some very honest and open conversations. I’m learning a lot, and asking RUOK more readily. Also great to see the amazing efforts of so many other participants. Go team! Every conversation, donation and km makes a difference. ShareDay one done and dusted
Monday 1st Jul Got out in the dark and damp for a brisk 12k. Felt pretty good although my legs are a bit tired now. Actually everything is a bit tired now🤪. But very happy to be underway. And a massive thanks to all my donors so far. I’ve passed $400 and want to aim as high as possible over the month. ShareTomorrow is go day!!
Sunday 30th Jun Very excited to kick off a month of walking and running tomorrow. An early walk before a few down days for treatment. Goal for week 1 is 21k.Counting down
Thursday 27th Jun Monday is launch day for my 100k month. It is also a chemo treatment day for me so I’m looking to log a few early in the morning before I have a few ‘off’ days. Goal for week 1 is 21k. Wish me luck, and please donate. Even $5 makes a difference and helps show support for mental health. ShareFirst warm up
Thursday 20th Jun Got out today for my first walk in over a month. Being kind to myself after dropping off the good habits I’d built. Winter colds, busy work and cooler weather got me feeling lazy. But that’s ok! Today I walked 12k and felt fantastic. Looking forward to more joyous walks as July approaches. ShareGetting ready
Sunday 16th Jun It’s not July yet, but I’m excited to get out for some walks this week. The weather is chilly so I’ll have to figure out the right layers. Everything works better when I’m walking in the mornings. My brain, my body, my productivity. I’ll be sharing photographs from each walk around my hometown of Warwick, QLD.
